Gorgeous gay actor Evan Todd lets rip at those who support Trump following news that Empire star Jussie Smollett was a victim of a vile hate attack!
When news broke that Empire star Jussie Smollett had been brutally attacked by two racist and homophobic thugs in LA this week, we were shocked and angry that this kind of mindless brutality continues in this day and age in supposedly civilised cities.
But we weren’t the only ones to be appalled by what has happened – many of Jussie’s peers were also heartbroken and have spoken out in disgust about his shocking attack. But musical theatre actor and star of the brilliant gay comedy 4th Man Out Evan Todd said it best in an instagram post that moved us to tears.
In it he wrote: “I’m at a loss for words right now. I just found out about Jussie Smollett. If you don’t know: he is an actor on Empire… a young, black, incredible talented actor who is also open about being gay…in an industry that has warned actors (especially black actors) that being too honest about their personal lives would affect their careers.
“Jussie Smollett was attacked by two white men in ski caps yelling “aren’t you that faggot from Empire”, had a rope tied around his neck, doused with an unknown liquid, and left on the street after being warned that ‘this is MAGA country’.
“I never liked calling someone “brave” when they refused to hide who they loved from the public. Not now. Not in 2019. I’d rather say that we are self-confident, evolved, and optimistic that times have changed and that we get to be a part of that continuing change in the industry, the media, and the country.
“Well, I was wrong. Sadly, it is #brave, because THIS is what is possible in Trump’s America. Make America Great Again [MAGA] means let’s go back to a time when gay bashing was commonplace, when black people were second class citizens, and when bigotry was tolerated (or encouraged) because “that’s just how people FEEL and what they BELIEVE”. This is disgusting.
“We HAVE gone back in time in America and I hope with every fibre in my body that the public sees how much we have lost by doing so. We’ve lost a Supreme Court that we can believe in, equality, honesty, decency, diplomacy, and the respect of the world.
“If you can still stand behind Trump, today in 2019: I do not forgive you and I never will. You have lost my respect and you are the problem. I’m sending love to Jussie. It’s all I have. I have love, and the belief that love trumps hate every time.”
Strong words, Evan, and we’re right behind you.
Last year, Evan got engaged to his boyfriend.
