GuysLikeU backs Bobby Norris’ campaign to make online trolling illegal!
Is there anything more cowardly than having some idiot hunched over their computer or mobile phone firing out vile comments at people they have never met. Of course there isn’t. It’s possibly the most tragic thing any person could ever do. However, these sad, deluded individuals have this groundless belief that by being abusive online gives them a sense of power. It doesn’t. It merely shows them to be exactly what we know them to be – a meaningless irritant and an absolute irrelevance.
Even though trolls cause people a lot of heartache and anguish, we all basically know that ultimately they have little to offer the world, have few friends or followers and that the vile words that spew from their finger tips are the result of their own deep rooted insecurities and self-loathing.
But still that’s no excuse for these people to get away with causing so many innocent boys and girls pain and it’s about time a law was put in place to punish heartless online bullies who cause people of all ages mental health distress or worse, drive them to taking drastic action.
TOWIE star Bobby Norris is one public figure who has been tirelessly campaigning to convince the government to make online trolling illegal. And in spite of spending the past few years bravely calling trolls out on online, he is sickened that he is still being called all manner of names online.
Just last week, the battered star took to instagram to take on the trolls who had hurled abuse at him during an instagram live interview with Love Island star Amber Gill.
“I am in absolute shock and so disgusted at what I have just experienced,” he raged afterwards. “The irony is I can’t believe I am still shocked anymore, considering I’ve been campaigning for trolling to made a crime over a year and a half. What I have just experienced has been disgusting. The amount of trolling I received is beyond shocking, like, vile to the core. Every derogatory word you can think of for a gay men, I have been called. I have been annhialted for my sexuality, for the way I look. I can’t believe that with every thing that is going on in the world right now, people still think “let’s go and troll someone.” We’re in the middle of global pandemic. What is going on?
Speaking directly to the vile pigs who posted the comments, Bobby raged: “I want to you Mr and Mrs Troll I know you’re watching, because you are in the comments, you are in my DMs, you’re in my instagram lives. Why do you think it is acceptable to abuse people online for their sexuality or for the way they look? It’s disgusting.”
Bobby went on to say that the bullies should remember that their cruel words are damaging and cause some vulnerable boys and girls to take their own lives. “We’ve seen time and time again that people are suffering with their mental health because of trolling. Some people are starting to hurt themselves, some are taking their own lives because of trolls,” he said. “So what part of that is banter, funny or just a laugh? I don’t get it. Honestly! Please in the comments Mr and Mrs Troll, you have a lot to say, fill me in and tell me why it is okay for you say those things to me. I ain’t going to lose sleep over it, but there is a lot of people who will. You do not know what people are going through behind closed downs. So what you think is a laugh or banter, isn’t. Think before you type. If someone was doing to that to you or your parent or children or partner or your brother or sister, it wouldn’t be banter then, wold it? I am shocked what I have just had to read. I will tell you one thing, It gives me more passion to fighting campaign. I will put an end to trolling.”
Sadly, his hearfelt plea was ignore and just days later during another interview with Amber, Bobby found himself abused in the comments section, including messages as vile as “Gay boy kill yourself man!”
In other angry post, Bobby repsonded: “So me and Amber decided to try another Get Gobby With Bobby this evening after our first one on Saturday was ruined by the most vile trolling. It honestly makes me sick to my stomach that some people think it’s acceptable to tell another human being to commit suicide, especially with what we have devastatingly seen happen over the last few months/years to other people in the public eye.”
He added: “I’ve said it so many times but THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE, because should somebody listen to your request you would have to live with that guilt for your entire life. There is a global pandemic happening right now and thousands of people are dying, don’t you think life is hard enough at the moment? It really is time to put an end to trolling and I will keep fighting until change is made.. It’s FINALY time to Instagram.com/endthetrend2troll!!”
A week later, the abuse continued to pour in and Bobby once again made a public plea to bring about new legislation to make trolling illegal. Post varying examples of the disgusting comments he was receiving, he said: “PLEASE help me put a stop to trolling once and for all and show your support for Instagram.com/endthetrend2troll.”
So come on folks, let’s back Bobby and stop these nasty bullies from making good people’s lives a misery!
